André Clouâtre, né en 1950, passe sa jeunesse sur la ferme familiale à Sabrevois, comté d’Iberville, Québec, Canada. Sa mère, éducatrice et artiste, l’initie à la peinture. Il a fait des études en architecture, mais c’est en science informatique qu’il est diplômé (Ph.D. McGill). Sa carrière universitaire (1973-2010) a eu plusieurs facettes: divers postes professionnels et de gestion au Centre de calcul  et à la Direction des technologies de l’information de l’Université de Montréal, enseignement au School of Computer Science de McGill University,  etc.

André peint de manière assidue depuis l’an 2000 et a plusieurs fois exposé ses oeuvres. Dans les dernières années, il a développé  deux approches . Il réalise des tableaux «d’énumération», des abstractions raisonnées, où l’infinité des objets de l’univers est représentée en scénarios combinatoires. D’autres tableaux plus figuratifs sont le résultat de son questionnement de la nature des choses ( humaines et autres) dont il illustre les rapports. Il les appelle tableaux ontologiques.


ANDRÉ was born in 1950 and was raised on a family farm in Sabrevois, county of Iberville, Québec, Canada. His mother, a teacher and an artist, initiated him to painting. He first studied Architecture but completed his university studies in Computer science (Ph.D., McGill University).  His university career (1973-2010) had many facets: various professional and administrative assignments at the Computing center and at the Information Technology Department of the Université de Montréal, lecturer at the School of Computer Science of McGill University, etc.

André paints assiduously since the turn of the millennium and has exhibited his work many times. In the last years, he has developed two perspectives. He does enumeration painting, which is reasoned abstraction, where the infinity of objects in the universe is represented through combinatorial scenarios. He also focuses on more figurative painting resulting from his questioning the nature of things ( humane and other), which he illustrates in their relationships to one and others. He calls this, ontological painting.
