Les engrenages, avec des dents internes et externes, ont amusé mes collègues de l’Atelier lorsque je leur ai montré la première version de ce tableau. Je l’ai retravaillé avec vigueur, laissant de côté l’abstraction illustrative pour me concentrer sur l’ingénierie picturale. Je l’ai montré à nouveau, à une autre artiste, qui m’a dit que l’image lui faisait penser à un plan de jardin.

The generative idea of this painting is the illustration of a reasoning (polynomial vs exponential complexity). When I showed the first version of it to my colleagues at the Atelier, they pointed out the funny gears with in and out teeth. I reworked it with vigor, concentrating on the pictorial engineering. I showed it again in another context, and I was told that it looks like a garden plan.
